To mark the publication of the first English translation of Akasegawa Genpei's Hyperart: Thomasson, Kaya Press is collaborating with Asian American arts organization Kearny Street Workshop (KSW) on a project titled SF Thomassons. The SF Thomassons project comprises three phases: photography, performance, and tour. 1. Photography: KSW will convene a group of photographers in October 2009 to select a set of Thomasson sites to focus on, and photograph them. Kaya Press will set up a special section on our Thomasson website for this group of KSW photographers to use. 2. In November 2009, KSW will convene a group of 5-8 performing artists, who will develop a guided tour of the Bay Area Thomassons selected and documented by the photographers. The tour - which could be a bus tour or walking tour - will feature performers as guides, and on-site performances at each of the Thomassons. 3. In December, KSW will present a series of performance-guided tours of San Francisco Thomassons. It is our hope that audience members will be inspired to contribute their own Thomasson photographs to the website on an ongoing basis. |
